Although the official launch date of its latest version of Firefox, Firefox 2.0, is tomorrow, Mozilla has already posted the final version on its FTP servers. Mozilla Foundation website is still missing the official launch page, but those who want to download Firefox 2.0 may use the FTP link.
Firefox 2 will include a new theme that updates Firefox's familiar interface, built in Phishing Protection, enhanced search engine management and search suggestions for Google, Yahoo! and Answers.com, improvements to tabbed browsing, including the ability to re-open recently closed tabs.
Also Firefox 2.0 will resume from where you left off after a system crash or browser restart, will have better support for previewing and subscribing to Web feeds and the ability to create bookmarks with "Live Titles" for Web sites that offer microsummaries. The new version includes new Add-ons manager that simplifies management of extensions and themes and support for JavaScript 1.7
Amongst other features, Mozilla promised extended search plugin format and updates to the extension system to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions.
Hoping to stave off increased competition from the open source Firefox internet browser, Microsoft on Thursday, last week, released Internet Explorer 7, a new version of its web surfing programme that incorporates some of the most popular features of its smaller rival. [playfuls.com]
i only had 1.5 on my main pc, so i got a welcome page that i hadnt seen before. i'm using portable ff2 rc3 on the laptop now and checking for updates doesn't find anything, but there again PortableApps.com haven't released a new version since RC3
I like the new style of those tabs with the new skin. With the little ring when it loads and the transparency (haven't really noticed the new features, spell check is good but i had spellbound before anyway which does the same thing).

i've noticed in now checks for updates to all installed extensions on startup, but i've also noticed now that (probably because of this update check) it seems a little slower to start
True but you could get a drop-down list somehow as i got it a few times by accident. I was fine with just clicking check spelling though, although i agree right click is easier

if you used to used Tab Mix Plus on FF1 (and if not, why the hell not?), and are wondering why it's not been updated for FF2, it has, but the guy has no bandwidth to host it.... you can however get it from these links:
