I see it continuously, along with a popup window saying it's convinced there should be something called 'data.cpi' which cannot be found.

Maybe your permissions are wrong

it needs to be able to write to the folder you run it in

in windows I have full permissions to do anything, even things I don't know I'm doing.

Have you changed the location in the config?

Under datafile, browse to where it is and select it

what're the errors? all i did was unpack the archive into it's own directory in program files, then run updatecheckaupdater (with updatechecka off), then point it in the direction of the data file

edit: do you have .Net 2.0 installed? chris said it won;t work without that

yeah might be an idea to actually get it running in windows first

i not ever used VMWare in Ubuntu, any good?

Hang on..... Winblows insist on using last known good settings as apparently something has buggered up in the meantime

VMWare is a resource hog imho, it works well but it's intensive.

yep that error means that either you haven't given it the right path to the file, or it's buggered

the latter probably.... 'data.cpi' doesn't exist
