BSkyB launch free broadband service for current customers

The broadband pricing war has heated up with satellite firm BSkyB launching a free service for its subscribers.

Under the offer, existing network customers can get its 2Mb Base package for free. Sky expects 30% of its eight million network users to sign up.

New subscribers to Sky Digital will be able to sign up for its broadband offering for between ?5 and ?17.

SKY BROADBAND PACKAGES
Base - 2Mb download speed, ?40 connection fee, ?50 installation, free subscription, 2GB monthly limit
Mid - 8Mb, ?20 connection, ?50 installation, ?5 monthly subscription, 40GB usage
Max- 16Mb, free installation and connection, ?10 monthly subscription, unlimited usage
Connect - 8Mb, ?40 connection, ?50 installation, ?17 a month, 40GB usage

why's the 'connect' option more expensive than the 'max' option?

probably to get people to pay for the service rather than get it free. not a bad deal by BSB though.

coz the Connect service is for people that cant get the normal service yet (service is only available to 28% of the country at mo)

we've applied tonight coz our Wanadorange connection is out of contract now, but we can't get it straight away as our line is supplied by cable (even tho we pay our bill to BT, work that out ffs)

I have done the switch.

Booted NTL phone for BT, TV for Sky and ordered the BB. Did that about this time last month and my wireless router turned up Tuesday but have to wait a week for sky to start pouring internet down the pipe.

Rang themup to get them to pour earlier but they nice lady from India who talked to somoeone else said I have to wait.

BT say that the line is enabled and its sky who I am waiting for.

Signed up for MAX ?10p/m upto 16mbps. Ill let you know what speed I can next week. Still on NTL 10mbps till sky get up and running.

it's the same for all the companies jumping on the BB bandwagon, TalkTalk took faaaaaaaaaarkin ages, my mate signed up for TalkTalk and it took over 3months before they installed it

My line was supposed to be connected in the exchange on Monday so plugged the router in ..... nada. Ring Sky ... it may be until midnight that it happens... next morning ... nada ... Ring sky ..... it may be 48/72 hours ... today ... ring again ... nada ... they have switch on date as Tue so wait ...... I get pissed off take apart master socket and plug router in there .... tada ... internet

So my line was active all along like BT said. Gonna speak to my mates dad on saturday who is BT engineer to fit a msater filter faceplate, which is supposed to help loads. Only problem is only getting 2-2.5 mbs, but its only ?10 where NTL is ?35 for 5mbps.

I am 3km from exchange (direct) 5km cable length.
