I bought my T630 last weekend, but knew that when i got it, it would not only be locked to T-Mobile, but would also have silly Software customisations (a la voda live!).
It was my mission to get rid of these in any way possible. And the easiest way by far is home flashing
Before i start: I believe this breaks no laws, but it does void your warrenty, and is probably frowned upon by sonyericsson and service providers
This method should work for all sonyericsson models, and some newer ericsson models.
First things first: The cable i used was a terminator. Which i purchased for about ?40 from here. i ordered it on monday lunch time, and it was delivered the next day
I've been told that its the best thign for the job. At that price it has to be better than those T28 data cables everyone else claims to use
With the cable you get a CD full of software for updating your phone. This is however all out of date, and the best thing to do is goto http://www.cellular-support.com and download all the new files (you have to sign up, but its quick easy, and definatly well worth it
). I'll explain the files later on Installing Dongle
1. Plug DONGLE into LPT (Printer) port
2. Plug cable into DONGLE and the other part into USB port
3. Start the software
You then plug the Phone (without sim card) into the cable, never turning the phone on.
Theres 3 files to flash:
T630_EMEA5_R4C003.sbn
T630_Modem_Standard_R4C003.arm
and z600_fullgdfs.gdf (have to use z600 version, cos t630 one is not available yet)
The sbn and arm files are both firmware files, so this will cure bugs and such. The gdf file is for default images/themes and customisations. All 3 must be flashed to the phone to remove service provider pap
sbn and arm files should be flashed at the same time. This is simply done by selecting "Flash AVR CPU with:" and choosing the sbn file, and then "Flash ARM CPU filewith:" and choosing the arm file
You then hit "Make selected jobs" and hope for the best
It should take about 5mins to install the first file, and then another 2 for the avr file.
If it meses up at all, or throws some errors at you. Simply unplug the phone, remove the battery, replace battery, plug back in, and start again
Once they are all installed, you will need to "Write GDFS file with" and use your gdf file
This will sort out the customisations, and remove all your themes/pictures/games, but your contacts will remain Unlocking
Plug the phone in, select "Rebuild SP area using OTP IMEI" and then make selected jobs
that simple, it takes about 2 mins, and youll have a nice unlocked phone
