Have recently set up a home network through my wireless ADSL router, set up with one pc wired to the router and another pc wirelessly connected. I used the XP Home Networking wizard on the first PC (and enabled filesharing) and then installed the same settings on the other pc with a flash drive.
The problem is this: The wired pc seems to be networked fine, but can only see itself in the workgroup. The wireless pc can only see an empty workgroup, when trying to access this workgroup after a long wait it tells me that my firewall is preventing filesharing access on the pc. I have Norton IS2004 on that pc but have it disabled and the XP firewall disabled too, so no firewall issues! The wired pc has F-Secure2005 and will work disabled or enabled.

Any ideas?

networking can be a pain is the arse sometimes. I assume you have rebooted the router?

is the workgroup name exactly the same on all pc's and have you used the norton networking wizard?

and you can browse the internet over wireless?

ed yes to workgroup name, and Norton recognised the network coz it told me so but not sure about a wizard?

eamonn, yes net connection works fine on both pcs now

do you have a different ip address for the wireless & wired on each pc? if so, you may need to add both ip addresses to norton's accept list..

ok have found and run the norton wizard now. f-secure has no wizard so configured it manually, now i can see the wired pc under the workgroup on both pcs, but cant see the wireless pc at all. will try again later as off out now

yeah cos your wired is likely to have a different ip and hence you need to manually add the wireless ip into norton. Doens't your router come with an NAT firewall?

sorted it last night before i went out, just needed to configure Norton & F-Secure then restart the machines
