Software that can cut videos?

Does anyone know of a program that can save only a selection of a video file? For example if I had a 100 minute movie, would it be possible to cut out from 50mins to 60mins and save it to a separate file?

Adobe premiere
Do it like a pro with the best software on the market
I'm sure there are free alternatives out there somewhere though

I thought whilst i was writing it, that my post was rather advert-like.
Is it feck easy to use. I've had a poke around with it for about an hour. I suppose if you read a tutorial it'd be easier

yeah, i just got a cam and tried using ulead video studio with not much success. Do any of you have one and recommend s/w?

Adobe Premiere is good for grabbing video off DV tapes.
It's a great peice of software, and it's what the pros use!
