SE Online Updates

Post by Vlammetje »

Looks like all future SE models will allow for home firmware updating :grinner:

Good news for the likes of me who find the trek to the service center a bit too much :P

It does require a sync station!

I somehow have the impression he is thinking of unlocking his phone.

And I am actually not sure if it can be done from this fw upgrade. i've obviously not ever done one myself, but I've been told that there is a very real possibility that the computer will match your existing fw to a fitting upgrade, and you might not be able to pick unbranded if you have branded on your phone.

Somebody needs to test this to be sure.... looking for a volunteer now :grinner:

Then again..... this could be wrong. After all service centres can refalsh with different fw as well and it is most likely all coming from the same db, right? :para:

theres details on esato but tis basically Orange have somehow prevented sw updates on P900, you cant even get it done at an SC :x

So, i've decided to take my WAP back underground, to stop it falling into the wrong hands

yeah that sucks. it says on the site that operator specific versions of the sw will be available?

my p800 is still on the original fw so i can live without but it sucks if you cant upgrade with orange

saying that they gave ne a free phone and more free minutes so im still happy :)

Orange have to ensure that the handsets used on their network are compatible with functions like Line 2, and in order to do this they install their own firmware.

The downfall to this is that you can only upgrade your phone to another Orange firmware, as it is automatically detected as an Orange firmware by the update client when you attempt the flash.

yeah...... that is the argument but it only partially holds true. Orange branding for example provides an extra short cut to the camera.... which is rather useless as the phone itself has a side button to use the camera directly.

Their branding may be necessary.... but the items they put in are not all necessary at all :para:
