Well it's been on the cards for a while now but looks like the time in right for the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and The International Federation for the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) to start taking legal action against UK and European music swappers. 247 people have been targeted for legal action across Europe (but not the UK at this moment although this isn't ruled out in future) and the BPI is now gearing up to take legal action on UK music swappers.

Both the BPI and IFPI have been sending out instant messages to people using filesharing apps to illegally swap music warning them they may face prosecution but legal action is still needed, it appears, to stop the swappers.

Jay Berman, IFPI chairman stated:

"Ultimately we have learned that education alone is not sufficient and some people persist because, like shop-lifters, they think they can get away with it"

Up to now the BPI have been content with trying to educate people towards legal downloads and now the legal download services are up and running, although in their infancy, it looks like they are going down the RIAA line. Enough said.

I can tell everyone is quaking in their boots at the prospect

we just had an email at work with a firm warning about using p2p software apps

all of our macs have limewire on so some of us (not me of course ) have been downloading stuff
gotta stop that now

you don't need to download as you've ripped 100's of cd's anyway

yeah but he hasnt got any good cds, therefore he has to download
