Revamped Xbox 360 officially unveiled

The long-awaited revamp of the Xbox 360, designed to store and display high definition video, has been launched.

The black Elite console has a 120GB hard drive and will go on sale in the US in April for $479.99 (?255). No details of a UK release were announced.

it's a limited edition apparantly, there will be a similar, non-limted, model availabe soon after.

there's been plenty of mention of it being a limited edition over at the xbox.com forums. all gets confusing, who knows then, wait and see.

anyway as far as i can see it's just an better version of the 360 and the core and premium that's available now will still be available for sale. MS still haven?t confirmed if the new model's' will have a 65Nm CPU which would be the main benefit as it would no doubt mean less breakdowns.

It was rumoured to be a limited edition, but MS have announced that it's not gonna be limited at all. It's just gonna be the best of the 3 xbox packages available, obviously superior to the core and premium. And i've read that it won't be using 65Nm CPUs.

wasn't engadget spouting all the rumours in the first place? anyway no 65Nm is a major negative then, it will no doubt be just as prone to packing in as the core and premium.

well the original rumour was the elite was limited edition in black then they were bringing it out in white as a non-limited edition so who knows.

it still doesn't have integrated WiFi (Xbox said it's because a study showed the majority of their customers use Ethernet to connect)

that'd be because nobody wants to fork out a load more cash to use the WiFi ffs....

The HD DVD drive will not be released in black.

so if you buy an Elite an upgrade to HD-DVD, you'll have a black console with a white bit added on ffs....

Sorry, no price cuts on the Premium or Core packs.

if you're thinking of buying and in no hurry then i would recommend waiting for MS to move to 65Nm production which is planned to happen sometime this year.

btw - am I right in saying that there's no point buying a 360 in the States and bringing it here, as it won't be compatible with the games sold over here?

I understand that the power supply would be different but presumably that could be easily replaced? Also presumably a US one would output in NTSC rather than PAL, but that shouldn't be a problem with most TVs these days should it?

you would have trouble with a fair few games as most are region locked. you would have to import a lot of them, although there a loads of decent places that do that.

was just considering the possibility of buying an Elite one in NYC, as it comes in at ?255 over there, whereas the Premium one is still ?279 over here, but sounds like it'd be too much hassle

I'd mucho prefer a unit with a 80gb hard drive and wifi. Don't want a cable going all the way downstairs to my tv would I.
