Want to offer some stuff on the main site but want to be able to show and log the number of downloads. Anyone know of a script or whatever to do this easily?

A quick not very good idea would be to have a download link to say download.php?id=1 and on that page add to a text file or database and then using header(location:) send the page to the download location .
