Just been reading a very in-depth review of the new Dell XPS Gaming PC line, made for interesting reading, especially as I know severall people who are Dell customers.

"If the Dimension XPS400 is any indication, Dell considers computer gamers a joke. Harsh, yes. But we think it's accurate. The system itself is a decent gaming platform and the hardware was well built. It was put together decently with parts that can pull the weight required to play today's graphically intensive games. But we couldn't even install one of the most popular games on the market, Sims 2, and trying to play other popular games would lock up the system and gaming sessions, when they would run, would get interrupted. The pre-installed programs that Dell chose to include on its computer were almost certainly the cause of all these problems, and unloading these programs from the boot-up routine fixed the problems."
Dell XPS systems look fairly decent in general, their use of Pentiums over Athlons has always been a downside. Their gaming laptops are some of the best on the market however.
oh right how odd. tis just a very indepth review which takes in the whole thing from actually buying it, to installation, to usage and tech support, and in the end shows what a bad product Dell are putting out
one of them things then i guess. from all the reviews i've read before basically say their systems are fairly generic but not too bad. their gaming laptops have had glowing reviews in the past. i guess new models may be worse or better.
the actual hardware part got a good review (they were very praising of the BTX case design etc). the main bad points were the pre-installed software which prevented most games installing/running, the lack of backup discs meaning you have to rely on the hidden factory-install image partition if it fails (which they don't tell you about, you have to phone them to find out about it) (which provides no install options, so all the pre-installed software is straight back on your machine) (which means that if a virus breaks your MBR you cannot even reinstall the system without contacting Dell and buying new system discs)
Dell as a company for systems are absolutely ******* attrocious. We've had about 12 new systems in our main store alone this year due to them having defective hardware. I can't fault their monitors however, my 2405 is a bloody beauty!
yeah to be fair our desktops at work have been Dells for years and can't fault them, we're also migrating to Linux-based Dell servers at the moment and they seem like top dollar equipment
