Sony is keen to get people using the new firmware to stamp out hacks that let people run non-Sony software, emulators and stolen games.
The new version closes the loophole that let people downgrade to earlier firmware versions that could be hacked.
It also lets people watch video via wi-fi networks and adds support for copyright-protected video.

Not sure about the anti-hack aspect as it's the home-brew scene that makes the PSP so interesting but the ability to watch video over your wi-fi network sounds good.
