Vaio Optical Port

I have an optical out port on my Vaio Desktop (RZ324) - I have had an optical cable in there for about at least a year (haven't removed it), I use it for recording to my MD. I needed to remove the cable from my computer recently because I wanted to connect it to my hi-fi, but it seems to be stuck. Anyone had a similar issue or can give any advice?
