How do you change where messages are stored?

dunno why?

btw updated them both now

wanna keep my messages (and settings) on a seperate partition so that if I re-format, all messges are preserved..

In XP:

Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Thunderbird

the messages seem to be stored all in one file for each mail account / folder, so in the mail account folder you'll have a file called "mail" with no extension, if you open that in notepad you can see your messages in there as one long text file, but there seems to be some encrypted parts still

Ta. Can't find a single mail file but the local folders seem to be stored in Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\o10fs7c6.default\Mail\Local Folders

I suppose if you want to also backup the settings, you just need to copy the whole Thunderbird directory...

i have a Local Folders folder, but i also have folders for each of my mail accounts that i use TBird for, and the mail file is stored in them

nope, no mail file any of the account folders...

im not too arsed about saving the messages its all the addys i want to back up. i cant believe thy've made doing so as difficult as it obviously is

my saved emaill addy's. you can just export them in outlook

You can just export your address book, Ed:

Open Address Book > Tools > Export
