what extension is it?

hehe i just looked at the opera website coz andy was harping on about it so much, and they were proclaiming that 20million downloaded opera in 2004, so i checked mozilla.org and firefox is over 46million since launch!!!

another critical update 1.0.3

I don't know what I did but eveything is now officially messed up.

My steps of this evening:

1) install windows updates
2) receive notice from F-Secure immediately after that a trojan has been found
3) F Secure crashes
4) Run F Secure which is slower than a glued down snail
5) Run Adaware
6) Open Firefox. It asks me to select a user profile. There only is one, 'default', but cannot select it because it is in use.
7) Create new profile.
Finds bookmarks, themes and extensions gone
9)
10) Find no way of copying over said detaisl to new profile
11) Cannot set 'default' user profile because apparently still in use.
12) Properly pissed off now!

4) Is that normal? or just slow cos of your problems?

so have you got a trojan on your pc?

i remember having an issue with FF ages ago like that but it gave me an error message which i googled a solution. i had to go into the chrome folder a rename something i think making sure i could view hidden files and folders. cant remember the exact solution though and it may not be the same issue

Anothwer thing that was not fund was my default firefox user profile though

So finally uninstalled all of FF and reinstalled from scratch, put in a few new (to me) extensions as well... all seems fine now

i've had the "choose profile" thing coupla times in the past when upgrading to a new version of ffox, think i just cancelled and then run the install again iirc.

what's wrong with f-secure?

nothing's wrong with f-secure itself, it's just suffered a blow from yesterday's updates i think. All seems fine today

How to speed up Firefox (as if it wasn't fast enough already):

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows (double-click the entries to change them):

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

4. Now close the tab, you should notice an increase in page-loading times immediately

Apparently it's best if you only do this if you have a 300kbps or better connection

i got scared so didnt bother messing with anything else, but lemme know if you find anythin good!

read a similar list in one of the mags i bought a week or so ago although it was a lot, lot bigger. not really interested in tweaking FF though as such things tend to break stuff and rarely worth the bother.

you're just a big wuss! you could at least post the stuff from the mag for us brave souls to have a go at
