What stuff would i need to network pc & wireless laptop so that i can use the laptop to surf while the pc is off? I know a pc and a laptop

Yep wireless router would be the best idea as that leaves you room for further expansion just in case you can't get enough porn on 2 pcs lol

Hi guys, I read your posts and have to admit, I never even dreamt of hooking my PCs together to play games-- but had all the kit you describe, so guess what this morning's project was...
I only ever set my broadband router up so both my laptops could browse/ email etc., and did want have either set up as the server/ firewall whatever - just so I could plug these and others (a friend was staying for a couple of months with her own laptop too) in and out whenever. That is they are all independent and one does not need to be 'permanently' connected. In addition this way my neighbours can share the wireless connection.
Here's the original setup, and the steps I had to work out today to make this feat of leisure possible:
The most important which took me over an hour to work out was switching off the bloody microsoft firewall--- had got all else sorted by this point. Went like a dream after that - have tested NFS3: Hot Pursuit, all bon there. Maybe I can get Half-life to work like this too? Will ava look later.

Arse just been trying to network 2 pcs and now i need a ferkin crosslink cable. Can i doctor a normal cable or get a widget to do it?

our NTL bband installation pack came with a "widget" to convert a normal cable to an x-link one, coz in they're wisdom NTL decided to change the connections mid-manufacture on the set-top boxes so they didn't know who had what!

so xlink cables are for directly linking up NCI's... right??

If you are going to link two pcs together directley then ou need and a crossover cable. If you are planning on having a load of pcs then you need a network hub and normal cables. The setup im going to use with my wireless flaptop and ipaq will be a 4 port wireless broadband router. This will have my cable modem attatched via a cable, then a cable (not crossed to my desktop and wireless to laptop and ipaq So I will be able to access email/net all the time without having to have desktop on.
