Transfer system drive

I have my friends pc back for fixing again. The one with a tiny partition on 150GB disk. No after my first attept and deleting the mbr I am left with a drive that shows as ~25 gb used 1 gb free on a 150gb drive.

SO i planned to merge the free space in to the main partition.

However when I open HDD manager it tells me that the entire disk is full??

Suggestions please. I have backed it up this time. I would like to try anything other than starting again as it has about a million games on it for the kids.

How do I back up Itunes?

Try taking a squizz at the disk using Partition Manager. It should show the free space and let you merge it. It's a decent piece of software and well worth a purchase. Don't know if the trial version will work but worth a try.

if Partition Manager doesn't work, why not try what I did? use Drive Snapshot to take an image of the drive to another disc, then re-partition the drive to the full 150GB and then restore the image to the big partition....

Call me stupid but..

I have got snapshot and copied an image to another drive.
I have got their boot disk which allows me to see ntfs drive.

150GB drive = d:
snapshot image on e:

How do I foramt the d: drive, the normal dos commands dont seem to work

does their DOS bootdisk come with any tools for formatting? not sure if it does tbh, but you could just get a different dos bootdisk that does, one of these might: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

snapshot has some bits to do with the mbr, if it rewrites this then I guess it will have the same effect as a quick format.

It's working now restoring so I will see what happens.

I'm sure using Partition Manager would have been a hell of a lot easier.

I started with partition manager and it saw the drive as 99% full, when only ~20bg was used.

In the end I used Partition Table Doctor to mend the mbr to the proper size then partition manager to move the free space.

Snapshot is a good little drive backup tool.

Strange, I've been using it for years and it's never missed a step. It can rebuild the MBR, show pretty much any partition no matter how they've been formatted, resize them, delete them etc though it does take a little instruction reading to get the best out of it.

I attempted to utilise PartitionMagic when I rebuilt my system, but the boot disks it created had a major problem: they wouldn't boot

couldn't comment on that because i use partition manager not magic
