full storyThe first DVD player to play both rival high definition DVD formats has been announced by South Korean firm LG.
The dual-format player will be able to play the Sony-backed Blu-ray discs and the Toshiba-led HD DVD discs.
The introduction of two next-generation formats has split both the electronics industry and Hollywood film studios.
The player will be launched at the same time as a hybrid double-sided Blu-ray HD DVD disc, developed by Warner Bros.

I'm sure you posted this before, maybe it was a rumour then?
Anyway, i hear Sony loose money everytime they sell a PS3 due to blue-ray, but surely this is rubbish? What's the point in making a product like they have that losses you money*? I expect the shareholders wouldn't be too impressed.
*I know the Bugatti Veyron, but they have loads of money and i guess they done that to get publicity due to it being the fastest car? PS3 isn't the same situation, unless it has something to do with them getting a percentage of game sales?
I just think it's not true tbh, until i see an official source saying it.

vinnie - yes, Sony are due to make a loss on every PS3 sold for several years due to development costs - part of which include Blu-Ray - in fact it's so bad this year that i've read speculation that 2007 might see Sony on the verge of going under, and that Microsoft might end up bailing them out to avoid monopoly problems (as i believe they may have done with Apple a few years ago)
ed - yeah i posted it a while back (hence i didn't bother reading the story on /. earlier
