hmm not happy about this, seems you have to pay an upgrade fee of ?50 for a new modem if you want to go faster than 5mb on NTL and have a samsung set top box. they can think again if they think they'll get me to pay it after all the money i spend with them :p
If you are now on our new 10Mb service, and get your Broadband via a Samsung Set-top Box, you may be interested in upgrading your set-top box, in order to achieve the highest speeds possible on your service. However, before you decide to upgrade, you should be aware of the following information.Set-top Box

Our Samsung set-top boxes will reach speeds of up to 5Mb in ideal conditions, still amongst the fastest speeds available to UK customers.

Many factors influence the actual speed that your Broadband will reach:

* the source of the data you are downloading
* the processing power of your PC and whether it is virus-free
* what else is running on your PC, especially USB and Ethernet devices
* and congestion on the ntl network at very busy times of day.

In general we would not recommend an upgrade unless you are sure that you need these very high speeds, and that your PC is optimised to make use of 10Mb.

Even without upgrading your equipment, you will still benefit from the following:

* Quicker uploads at 512Kb
* Reduced price from ?37.99 to ?34.99 early in 2006
* More usage ? more than double your monthly usage allowance from 30GB to 75GB
* Enhanced security with ntl Netguard worth ?40 - download it FREE at http://www.ntlworld.com/netguard
* Fantastic entertainment including premium music, games, photos and kids content FREE with Broadband Plus, worth ?30 per month - find out how to register at http://www.ntlworld.com/broadbandplus.

However, if getting the highest possible speed right now is important to you, then you can order a modem upgrade here online for a fee of ?50.
