Why does my wireless keep disconnecting....then reconnecting

Can anyone suggest why my wireless keeps disconnecting?

I've got the Linksys WAG354G adsl router (which was a nightmare to even get to connect to tinternet in the first place).. anyway I've not set up the wireless to use with my laptop & it keeps connecting then disconnecting every 1-2 mins (v. annoying as u can imagine).

I've tried different channels to see if i was getting interference but no joy.

Any ideas would be greatly received.

have you tried checking your routers logs to see if it shows any message when it keeps disconnecting?

Do you have any program like a wifi sniffer running that interupts the connection. My pocket pc does this when in sniffing mode. Cant remember the proper name for the process. Then when its finished it reconnects as the process is released.

how far away are you from the router?

Right - not in order - the answers...

Cheers for your help guys - totally losing my rag about this bloody router
(for info - I'm using Windows XP, laptop is acer travelmate 4150)

the router is set now to show SSID - as some forums say to show it while trouble shooting - security is set to WPA (pre-shared key) access via G only.

I've also set the network card power saving to maxium performance (high power use).

try using WEP security and see if that helps and you dont want to be using Turbo G.

your log files should be shown in your router settings somewhere.

think about what you could be using that may interfere with your wireless, plenty of household items such as microwaves can cause signal loss. could be a neighbour

what firewall is the laptop using if any? if its norton or similar try disabling it to see if that helps

Guru to the rescue - now just got to fine tune why it didn't work with WPA - but leave that for a rainy day when i'm feeling masochistic
