sourceMicrosoft has made available a beta version of its WinFS next-generation filing system to subscribers of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN). But although WinFS was originally intended to form part of the forthcoming Windows Vista operating system, the beta requires Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
WinFS has been described by Microsoft as a storage platform that bridges the worlds of file, relational, and XML data. Compared with the file system on current versions of Windows, it is expected to enable users to find and relate information stored on their computers more easily.
