i dont know then matey, it could be a number of things. seeing as you need to install xp pro i would go with that option next (as it will rule out sw problems if it keeep doing it after the reinstall) without pratting around uninstalling stuff one by one.

have realised my problem now, the thing only freezes when there's a disc in the cdrw/dvd drive, it'l last long enough to burn a new disc / copy a disc/ install software, but not long enough to play a dvd, but as i been considering buying a dvd burner anyway to replace it it shouldnt be too much of a hardship

my friend is having the same problem when he inserts anything into his new DVD drive. I just assumed the PSU couldn't handle the drive power consumption while spinning up?

that might be it yeah, my drive seems to make a hella lotta noise tho too? coz of the case of the pc tho the drive is mounted vertically instead of horizontally by design, just wondering if a normal drive will work vertically?

maybe the drive is knackered thus keeps freezing or still the psu as the drive spinning is consuming power?

from the noise of it, the drive spins constantly when there's a disc in, even when not accessing the disc, is this right?

Quite a few drives have clippy things so the discs can be put in vertically...
