A mate recently installed XP on his home PC, everything was running fine until he turned the PC on yesty. His login screen now shows his normal login (but password protected, he's never used a password), and a login name called ASP.net (which is alsp password-protected). As both logins are password-protected he now has no way of logging into his PC, and no idea how it got like that! Any ideas?
but what is the asp account? and where did it come from? <br/><br/><i>So, i've decided to take my WAP back underground, to stop it falling into the wrong hands</i>
not really sure. there is an asp account set up when you install xp. if you check user accounts there is your main one, a guest and asp. you shopuld really disable the guest account as it provides a back door into your pc if it got nicked etc. all i can think is he has somehow deactivated the guest and his main account.
Seems all he could do really is to do an over the top reinstall of windows. Then av least he can access his data. Fooking wierd 1 how the hell did he manage that! ? <br/><br/><i></i>
oh so he has set a password and forgotton it? well there are a couple of extremely comlex ways of gaining some access such as booting into dos (probably best googling as i know it can be done but now how) but i would say he's pretty fubared
no he reckons he hasnt set a pword, and he'd tried all his normal pwords to no avail <br/><br/><i>So, i've decided to take my WAP back underground, to stop it falling into the wrong hands</i>
Oh right, well still don't know how he managed that. I still reckon his best option is to do a reinstall over the top of the other as if will only lose installed programs. I thought the only way me accessing xp through dos is by the repair control panel ting which u need pass for. <br/><br/><i></i>
That asp appeared there due to updating the .net framework probably. I never got my account password protected when it happened to me, just two accounts appeared. But that was fixed by going into the account settings and disabling asp.net account or something.
Too late now, but if someone has a similar problem
