is that SDRAM? if so it wont fit in ur mobo as you need DDR. i dont know if it would help but i really would try a reformat to see if it can eliminate some of the problems you have been having. worth a try before buying more ram

Posted from a mobile

Well i got a new hdd new OS clean install and still had a reset :( so only ting it can be is my mobo/memory.

as my mobo is older and made by MSI i'm gunna replace that with a decent mobo.

guess it just an exspensive process of elimination :o

BTW, new board and processor wise, the new 939 Athlons and n force boards are looking very promising indeedly.

Must resist temptation for upgrading..........

yes andy they are, going to leave it a while longer before upgrading this pc to an athlon64 though. waiting until things settle down a bit more and pci express boards are in full swing. then stump out for a new mobo, ram, graphics card (actually i'll probably get a new card end of the year - the new raddys look good) etc etc

not sure what you can do rob tbh. im stumped. you have set it to boot form the hard drive in bios?

well i had it boot from hdd first no go, then i read sumit about new chipsets and windows not being able to figure it out (which is hardly surprizing)

itt said that i may need a repair install,so i set it to boot from cd rom first booted from the winxp cd went through the setup again,...then im pretty sure it finished what it was doing but could av sworn there still 5min left then it reset. (wether it finished or not i dont know?)

but again it done the same ting. So that really pissed me of i just wanted my pc back, thus stripping down the mobo again to fit old 1,...now i dont even get a screen coming up just blackness :(

usually that mean memory or vid card but i've taken the ram and Gcard out and put back like a million times, scratched my head a few hudred time and banged my head against the wall at least 3 times (im not joking)

no but this 1 really takes the biscuit, new mobo and cant even get that to work or any for that matter so im now without a pc till i figrue i out or te old man will help me out.

well i now know why my pc didn't boot off my old mobo,.Doh left a couple of mobo mounting pillars from the new that i took out :o

so now i can get a screen come up,which is sumit i guess first message i get is Cmos battery low,i got into the bios and everyting seemed ok then it didnt acutally carry on booting as it should.

So i then rebooted again and went into the bios, all the text in the bios screen is all screwed up some of it readable most of it aint, which looks like is defo the battery.

the other error message a get is Dram/fsb frequencies may be wrong?

now i can get into the frequency settins which are readable it shows my Dram at 167Mhz and cpu at 133Mhz should it not be 100/133?

And the Dram voltage is set to 2.6v, is this too high, can i lower it?
Guess andy is the 1 to ask about ram frequencies, cuz i aint got a clue.

just had a thought about random reboots. if your pc is still doing it and you havent done it rclick on my computer/properties/advanced/startup and reovery and uncheck automatic restart. this may well stop it rebooting when encountering a problem and show an error message instead.

sounds like reformat is here soon :o

as why i bought new hdd and changed OS,which i still had a reset while running a few tings and reinstalling UT2004.the error was sumit like fatal system error.

So i thought it must be my mobo so i got new 1 and couldnt get it to boot from any of my drives :O 2000pro or xp pro.

Then back to old mobo and old drive with 2000pro on,wierd ting is before i changed hdd's this w2k drive kept losing settings everytime i rebooted well it dont do it any more, just cant work it out :?:

btw at the same time i changed to the Areo series instead of the Jet 1's see about a 8 C drop :D just waiting to see if i still get reset now im back on old 1...i was just tinking could it not be that my ram fequencies are set wrong or sumit which when under load is causing reset ?

( i aint got a clue about that stuff tho) but to even get my w2k hdd to boot i had to change the Dram setting from fast to safe in order to boot with just 1 stick? so maybe when i shorted the board it drained the cmos batt which cleared the bios? hence settings all fu**ed up? oh i dont know :x
